What makes plus size lingerie an essential buy for a heavier woman some may wonder. This question is actually caused by the fact that most large women on the border between regular and plus size may tend to try and squeeze themselves into the smaller ‘regular’ size thinking that it does not make a difference. This is actually very far from the truth.

Summer Time: Bandeau Bikini

The bandeau bikini is one hot style that keeps making come backs as the number one preferred swimsuit style. The Bandeau bikini is basically a bikini with a  strapless top. The term bandeau is the diminutive of band, in French, where the style was first adopted.

Bandeau bikini comes in varied fun styles to suit the tastes of all beach goers. If the strapless top is thick enough to cover part of the torso then it is usually referred to as a tube bandeau bikini. Some bandeau bikinis are seamless, while others are gathered at the front or have added extra ruffles or flowers.

Many women wonder whether the bandeau bikini is the right style for the figure. Here we should note  that bandeau bikinis offer little to no support to the bust area. This makes them very suited for women who do not need much support, those with medium firm breasts.

Some women with smaller busts fear that the bandeau bikini will make them look flat. This would only happen if they choose one of the spandex compressing seamless styles. But even then, choosing bright colours and daring patterns will give the visual illusion of a larger bust. The best solution would be to wear a bandeau top which is gathered at the front with added ruffles or a bow tie.

French Knickers

French knickers are some of the most comfortable lingerie pieces available on the market. They were, of course, not dubbed French by the French themselves. It was rather the English who came up with this clever little name for these comfy knickers, because they were made in the liking of the visible underwear of the French dancers performing the Can Can.

French knickers when they were first designed covered all of the derriere, the hips, and most of the upper thighs. Now, however, they tend to cover only part of the upper thigh and a large proportion of the bottom. They are very suitable for women seeking comfort and freedom of movements without all the restriction associated with restrictive underwear with a snugger fit to the body like boy shorts for instance.

French Knickers are also famous for giving its wearer no visible panty line. They also have loose fitting legs which are not elasticised. This makes them more comfortable and line free at the thighs or on the buttocks where they stop.

French knickers come in a variety of style but they all commonly have a high back, so they may not be the best option for low rise jeans and other hip-huggers.

What are Balconette Bras?

Balconette bras are one of the sexiest designs of bras available. Their straps are wide set leaving room for exposing as much of the décolletage as desired. Their breast coverage is minimal, making them ideal for low-cut evening gowns and other cleavage revealing outfits.

Balconette bras are very similar to demi cup bras. They are similar to the extent that some people use the two names interchangeably. The similarity comes from the fact that both cover approximately half of the breast area. Balconette bras, however, do not form a straight ‘shelving’ top edge, unlike demi cupped ones. They plunge in a V-shaped, more alluring, design.

Allure is not the only thing the gentle plunging across the chest offers; because of this design breasts do not pop out of the balconette bras. This makes them ideal for use even for women with heavier bust lines.

So, whether a woman is looking for support or enhancements, balconette bras seem to be a winner design. Balconette bras  come in many attractive lacey and embroidered styles with fine, elegant details.

Wardrobe Essentials: Strapless Bras

Any wardrobe savvy gal knows how important it is to always wear a bra that best complements not only her body, but her outfit. Whether it be to compliment a revealing evening gown, or simple shoulder bearing  tank top, strapless bras are the answer to a neat and prim look.

Strapless bras were once upon a time notorious for being difficult to pull off by someone with a larger frame. However, with all the available modern designs and wider back straps, this concern is a thing of the past.

Strapless bras are available in many styles to cater for all needs: bustier, bandeau tube,  and underwire. Any of these can provide either regular or ultra-lift for that extra perky look.  The convertible strapless bra is another common wardrobe accessory that can quite useful to have around. Convertible strapless bras are bras with straps that can be removed from their hooks at will.

For these extra revealing outfits, strapless bras also come in “plunging” varieties  that will provide support while being as discreet as possible. Also, for outfits that bare the backs, there are backless strapless bras available. Some of them are basically just “adhesive” cups, others  are form-hugging stretchy strapless bras with adhesive wings that hold the bra in place.

The coverage offered by strapless bras differs greatly among designs. From the comfortable fit, full support, to the demi cup to the ‘barely there.’ The choice of cup coverage depends largely on the style of the evening gown or dress worn.

A word of caution is due, most backless strapless bras are wearable for a certain number of times only, usually anywhere between twenty and fifty times.  So, in essence, they may be expensive buys that one needs to acquire only upon need not as a long term investment.
